I sat in on a debate watching party Friday night, and it was a raucous one. Obama and McCain were lackluster in their performances, but the people at the party in the Tasti lounge loved every minute of it.

If you didn't get a chance to see the debate or join in on the party, we have a recap for you here at Cub Pub

This may be hard to remember, but there was a time when Mitt Romney wasn't John McCain's attack dog. Before these two Republicans became best buds, they were locked in a nasty feud during the Republican primaries. One of the funniest episodes was one involving what is now a standard charge - flip flopping.

Pundits call Joe Biden a gaffe machine, and maybe they're right. It's a miracle that something he's said hasn't derailed the Obama campaign so far. But there's one thing you have to love about the guy - his sense of humor. He is absolutely hilarious, as a friend of mind who met him at the ServiceNation event can attest to. If you need proof of his comedy chops, take a look at this.

If any of you out there were hoping for a debate that would be entertaining, whether through Joe Biden's trademark gaffe-prone sense of humor, or Sarah Palin's seeming inability to form a complete thought, you were severely disappointed. Biden stayed clear of any possible gaffes, and Palin turned in a surprisingly strong performance. Though there were few surprises or laughs, what we did get was an honest-to-god debate that highlighted the differences between the two campaigns, shed light on important issues of the election, and gave us insight into the two vice presidential candidates.

There is a very interesting four part report up over at Politico that explores how race could have an impact at the polls on election day. Primarily, it delves into the phenomenon of people lying to pollsters about the importance of race in this election, as well as past elections. Most recently, Hillary Clinton's surprise victory in the New Hampshire primary was seen as an example of white Americans lying to pollsters about their willingness to vote for a black candidate - there was nothing else to explain her victory in an election that the polls said was going to go to Obama.

So, we all know that race is going to play a huge role in this election, especially among older Americans who grew up during the civil rights era - black men and women who never dreamed of this scenario are itching to cast their ballots for Obama, while older white men and women ... not so much. Here's an interesting video from CNN about a group of retirees from Florida. Caution: those who are sickened by the sight of wrinkly people should not watch this video.

Turns out it's harder to rattle Obama than McCain thought.

His supporters begged him to bring the fight to Obama in the third presidential debate Wednesday night, and McCain did it ... but with no great effect. Obama remained cool under fire and potentially disarmed McCain of his favorite weapon of late, William Ayers. What went wrong for McCain in the final debate, and where does he go now?

This might not mean too much in the grand scheme of things, but in a race where a perfect storm seems to be brewing for Barack Obama, the support of three institutions of print journalism shows that the Illinois senator continues to gain momentum and support as the closing days of the election draw near. Check the link for further details from the three papers We'll keep an eye out for any other newspapers that endorse candidates in the days to come.

When it rains, it pours.

Yesterday, we brought news fromm CNN that three large newspapers had endorse Obama. It came with the warning that these endorsements paled in comparison to endorsements from papers in battleground states that Obama is fighting in. Today, CNN reports that the Denver Post and Miami Herald have both endorsed Obama. It would seem that this is a rather huge boost to the Obama campaign in those states. You can read the full endorsement from the Denver post here. Stay up to date on any further endorsements through the Cub Pub.
