After Sen. McCain suspended his campaign to deal with the financial crisis, he abruptly cancelled his appearence on David Letterman telling the comedian that he would be flying right back to Washington. That night, on his show, Letterman caught McCain getting his make-up done in an unflattering light. Among other things, Letterman said, "This just doesn't smell right. Someone must have put something in his Metamucel." McCain came back on the show yesterday to apologize.

In the spirit of 30 minute campaign ad buys by the Obama campaign, SNL recently featured a skit that involved Obama addressing the American people with the help of some of his Democratic friends.

Earlier this week, The Veritas Forum at Columbia University hosted a forum entitled Democracy, Terrorism, and Religious Freedom. Chris Seiple, the President of the Institute for Global Engagement and a member of the Council on Foreign Relations based in New York, along with Alfred Stepan, the Director of the Center for the Study of Democracy, Toleration, and Religion at Columbia University, conversed with each other and took questions from an audience of students about how best to deal with nations of different faiths.

I wish there was some way to get this webpage to play Beyonce's 'Irreplaceable' song every time you visit this site.

For those handful of Columbians who are moderates or conservatives hiding in the corners of this university's campus (I hear your cry in the comments), I apologize for this sham of a blog by the supposedly non-partisan Columbia Political Union.  And because I don't think that my fellow editors plan on being fair and balanced any time soon, I intend to be a blog conscience of sorts by pointing out the view from the other side in the future.

Here's a piece just posted to MSNBC.  I think it might be an interesting read about how President Obama has created significant uncertainty in the US economy-- namely because his choice for Treasury Secretary, Tim Geithner, has been a major flop, according to most knowledgable and competent investors.

This seriously calls into question Obama's executive judgment.  Wasn't it Tim Geithner who was chairman of the New York Federal Reserve Bank when the whole Wall Street meltdown started?
