Word is out that McCain, in a move seemingly planned to showcase his leadership potential, will stop campaigning and return to Washington to work on the finance bailout package. He asked opponent Barack Obama to postpone the first debate planned for this Friday night. Barack declined that offer, insisting that candidates should be able to multitask. With the Bailout issue dominating the news cycle over the past week, McCain's move brings the race back to the spotlight.

Bold Move on McCain's part

I don't want to be, but I'm impressed. You can call it a calculated move to make voters think he's all about action and that he'll walk the walk. Still, I think McCain is quite daring to postpone his campaign to return to Washington. And what finesse to even invite Obama. Say what you will, but that invitation was a lose-lose situation for Barack. He says yes and it'll look like McCain is leading him. He says no (which he did) and they'll say Obama cares more about the campaign than the financial crisis gripping the nation today.

Maybe, but it's revealing

What better time to stop the campaign when the spotlight issue is your biggest weakness and some polls indicate that you slipped 11 percentage points in only a week.

Obama might say that a good candidate shouldn't have to stop his campaign to have a constructive impact on policy.

McCain-Palin 08 woohoo!
