This may be hard to remember, but there was a time when Mitt Romney wasn't John McCain's attack dog. Before these two Republicans became best buds, they were locked in a nasty feud during the Republican primaries. One of the funniest episodes was one involving what is now a standard charge - flip flopping.
This moment was as hilarious because of John McCain's awkward laugh and smile as it was for his dig at Mitt Romey's principles. After Romney delivered a point about his commitment to bringing renewed concervative change to Washington, which was a cornerstone of his campaign, McCain saw a chance to hit his biggest rival on the issue of flip flopping.
What could have been a cool and funny dig at Romney, however, turned into an example of how awkward and strange McCain can be when he goes off the cuff. Good thing he brought Steve Schmidt into his campaign - at the very least, he has helped to mitigate McCain's tendency to make off the cuff remarks that backfire on him.
